Detailed, individual feedback on an IB Mathematics Internal Assessment, followed by a one-to-one discussion with an Experienced Teacher.
The IA Feedback service is designed for students who have completed a substantial draft of their Mathematics IA and would like expert guidance on the mathematics, structure, communication and overall effectiveness of their work.
This service is available only with an Experienced IB Mathematics Teacher.
What Is Included?
The IA Feedback package includes:
- detailed review of one complete Mathematics IA draft,
- written comments and annotations on the submitted work,
- feedback on mathematical content and reasoning,
- feedback on structure and mathematical communication,
- identification of strengths and areas for improvement,
- consideration of the relevant IB assessment criteria,
- one 55-minute individual online session with an Experienced Teacher,
- opportunity to discuss the feedback and ask questions.
The student receives the commented IA before the follow-up session, allowing time to read through the feedback and prepare questions.
How Does It Work?
1. Send Us Your IA
The student submits a complete or substantially complete draft of their Mathematics IA. They can also tell us about any particular areas they would like the teacher to focus on.
2. Detailed Review
An Experienced Teacher reads the IA carefully and provides written comments directly on the work. The purpose of the feedback is to help the student understand where the IA is strong and where further work may be beneficial.
3. Receive Written Feedback
The annotated IA is returned to the student before the online meeting. Students are encouraged to read all comments carefully and identify the points they would particularly like to discuss.
4. 55-Minute Feedback Session
The student then has a 55-minute individual online session with the teacher.
During the session, the teacher can:
- explain written comments in greater detail,
- discuss the most important areas for improvement,
- clarify mathematical issues,
- answer questions about the feedback,
- help the student understand how the relevant assessment criteria apply to their work.
The student leaves the session with a clearer understanding of the strengths of their IA and what they should consider when revising it.
Academic Integrity
The IA must remain the student’s own work.
Our role is to provide feedback, explanation and guidance.
We do not:
- write sections of the IA for the student,
- rewrite the student’s work,
- provide text for the student to submit,
- complete mathematical investigations on the student’s behalf,
- make changes directly to produce a final submission.
The student is responsible for deciding how to respond to the feedback and for making all changes to their own work.
Who Is This For?
IA Feedback is available for students taking:
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) HL
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) SL
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI) HL
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI) SL
The service is most useful when the student has already completed a substantial draft.
If the student is still at an earlier stage and mainly needs help understanding the mathematics involved in their exploration, a Single Session may be more appropriate.
Experienced Teachers Only
IA Feedback is provided only by Experienced Teachers. Reviewing an Internal Assessment requires careful consideration of the mathematics, mathematical communication and the assessment criteria as a whole. For this reason, this service is not offered by Student Tutors.
