A structured programme for students preparing for IB Mathematics mock examinations or final examinations.
The Exam Preparation Programme combines six original TL Maths examination papers with six individual 90-minute tutoring sessions.
Each paper is used to identify weaknesses, improve examination technique and make the student’s preparation increasingly focused as the examination approaches.
Unlike our Regular Sessions, which provide ongoing support throughout the course, the Exam Preparation Programme is specifically designed to improve performance under examination conditions.

Original TL Maths Exam Papers
Students receive six original examination papers created by TL Maths.
The papers are designed to practise the mathematical knowledge, problem-solving skills and examination techniques required for IB Mathematics.
Using our own papers allows us to structure the programme carefully and use different questions to reveal particular areas of strength and weakness.
Each paper is accompanied by TL Maths marking guidance and solutions, which are used as part of the review process.
How Does the Programme Work?
The programme follows a simple cycle:
TL Maths Exam Paper 1 → Session 1
TL Maths Exam Paper 2 → Session 2
TL Maths Exam Paper 3 → Session 3
TL Maths Exam Paper 4 → Session 4
TL Maths Exam Paper 5 → Session 5
TL Maths Exam Paper 6 → Session 6
Before each session, the student completes one TL Maths exam paper independently, preferably under timed examination conditions.
The completed paper then becomes the starting point for the next 90-minute session.
Before Each Session
The student completes the assigned examination paper and reviews their work.
They are encouraged to identify:
- questions they could not complete,
- places where they may have lost marks,
- topics they found particularly difficult,
- questions that took too much time,
- methods they were unsure about,
- mistakes they repeatedly make.
Whenever possible, the completed paper should be sent to the tutor before the session.
During Each Session
The tutor and student analyse the paper together and identify the areas where improvement is likely to have the greatest impact.
Sessions may include:
- reviewing incorrect or incomplete answers,
- explaining difficult questions,
- comparing different solution methods,
- correcting gaps in mathematical understanding,
- analysing why marks were lost,
- improving mathematical notation and communication,
- developing more efficient approaches,
- improving graphing-calculator technique,
- practising time management,
- working on related examination-style questions,
- identifying priorities before the next paper.
The purpose is not simply to go through the answers.
Each paper is used to decide what the student should change before completing the next one.
What Do We Focus On?
The exact focus depends on the student, but common areas include:
- weaker syllabus topics,
- recognising familiar examination structures,
- choosing efficient solution methods,
- interpreting command terms,
- showing sufficient working,
- communicating mathematics clearly,
- using the GDC effectively,
- allocating time across a paper,
- knowing when to move on from a difficult question,
- checking answers efficiently,
- reducing avoidable mistakes,
- improving consistency across different areas of the syllabus.
The emphasis throughout the programme is on turning mathematical knowledge into examination marks.
Who Is the Programme For?
Exam Preparation is available for students taking:
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) HL
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) SL
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI) HL
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI) SL
It is particularly suitable for students who:
- are approaching mock or final examinations,
- have already covered most of the syllabus,
- want a structured final stage of preparation,
- are performing below the level they expect,
- understand much of the mathematics but lose marks in examinations,
- struggle with time management,
- want systematic examination practice,
- want to identify patterns in their mistakes across several papers.
Choose Your Tutor
The same six-paper programme is available with either a Student Tutor or an Experienced Teacher.
Student Tutor
Our Student Tutors are carefully selected former IB students who achieved excellent results in IB Mathematics HL.
Because they have taken IB Mathematics examinations relatively recently, they can provide particularly useful practical guidance on:
- approaching examination papers,
- organising revision,
- managing time,
- using the calculator effectively,
- avoiding common mistakes,
- developing efficient examination habits,
- preparing during the final weeks before an examination.
This option is particularly suitable for students who understand most of the course and mainly need structured practice, feedback and examination experience.
Experienced Teacher
Experienced Teachers provide a deeper level of diagnostic and academic support.
This option may be particularly suitable for students who:
- have significant gaps in mathematical understanding,
- have persistent weaknesses across several topics,
- need more structured intervention,
- struggle with mathematical communication,
- are aiming for a substantial improvement in their examination result,
- want detailed analysis of their examination performance.

Exam Preparation or a Single Session?
A Single Session is appropriate when a student needs one-off help with a particular topic, question or problem.
The Exam Preparation Programme is different.
It involves six examination papers and six connected sessions, allowing the tutor to identify patterns in the student’s performance and work systematically on examination technique over time.

Exam Preparation or a Mock Examination?
The two services have different purposes.
Exam Preparation is training
The student completes a sequence of six papers and uses each one as an opportunity to identify weaknesses and improve before attempting the next paper.
A Mock Examination is assessment
It provides a more formal measure of the student’s current examination performance under timed conditions, followed by detailed marking and feedback.
The two services can also complement each other.
A Mock Examination can be used before the Exam Preparation Programme to identify priorities, or afterwards to assess the student’s progress.
